A New Grandbaby!

Death Valley Ride

Jan and I were blessed with our first Grandchild this March 25th, 2008.
Her name is Ava Joy Lo DeGan. Jan and I flew out to Las Vegas about ten days ago to visit our son, JR, our daughter in law, Cindy and our precious new grand daughter Ava.
Well like any good father I thought I should spend some quality time with my son, so I suggested a bike ride out to Death Valley, and believe it or not the plan was okayed by the girls, so off we went. JR and I rented a couple of bikes and headed out towards Death Valley on a cool Las Vegas morning. When we finally got out of the Las Vegas area we headed towards California on Route 160. About 60 miles out took an old road named the “Old Spanish Highway” That road was wonderful, smooth, no traffic and plenty to hills and curves as we entered the small foothills that surround Death Valley. The temperature outside Death Valley was about 72 degrees, once we got into the valley it was 90 degrees.
The temperature record for April in Death Valley is 111 degrees. The desert was in bloom and all the cactus had large beautiful red flowers on them. We spent about 8 hours on the bikes and had a great day.
