May 2008 Chapter Director notes
They say it is Spring, but the weather sometimes doesn’t really feel like it. April 26th was scheduled to be our Chapter H safety tune-up day, but it was so cold and windy, that Safety director, Dennis Pittman decided to cancel it for now. We did have our meeting and supper at Okoboji Grill. We had a good turnout and discussed upcoming riding season.
Chapter shirts, pins and patches are available to purchase from Donna Pittman.
Dennis Pittman, our Safety director reviewed GWTA’s safety program and had tests available for rider and co-rider. You can turn those back in and get a patch if you like. He said GWTA only really counts those that purchase the patches and rocker arms. We discussed First Aid and CPR, whether to try to have a class here or wait for Region C or Goldrush.
South Dakota issued a challenge to donate $50.00 to Region C. Our chapter discussed and voted to meet S.D. challenge and donated $50.00 to Region C.
Remember we have Raffle tickets available. Check with Donna Pittman and turn in those you have by the 15th or 20th of each month.
We did have several of our members go to Kansas City Spring Fling. We rode in the rain. Bill had something fly up from the road and scrape his windshield, new helmet visor and broke his CB antenna. He is grateful for his tall windshield and visor on his new helmet! Saturday was clear and warmer and we had a great ride. Check out more about this on our blog.
Some of our members did the Terribles Casino ride for the Charity, Operation First Response. The weather was cool and very windy. There was a small turnout because of the weather. $250.00 was raised. Connie Patton won a basket valued at $350.00 full of prizes from several stores in the area, including $20.00 gas voucher. The ride was about 270 miles.
Our first Monday night ride was May 5th. It was a beautiful and warm evening, perfect for our ride. We went to Adel, to the Italian Village.
Bill and Dee went to Missouri and Arkansas to see their children. They had a quick trip and covered a lot of miles. We were glad to see them get home safely since tornados were in the area down there.
This past Monday night we rode to Ames to the Pizza Ranch. It again, became windy and chilly as the sun went down. We had a good ride and enjoyed having the Beverages join us as well as Jon and Rosalee Driskill (on their new red 1800.) Patti met us at the restaurant.
Many are camping Memorial Weekend at Storm Lake. Region C plans are being made. If you have not sent in your registration, please do so as soon as possible. The region needs to get a food count. Gold Rush is around the corner as well.
There are many activities coming up and encourage you to attend if you desire. You will meet a lot of great people in GWTA groups.
We hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to all those in April and May.
Chapter P and L are having their fun run on June 1st at Manawa State Park.
Everyone ride safe and be safe.
